I was born in North East England and at 19 moved south to join the police. I retired from the Metropolitan Police in 2015 after 30 years service. I then became a motorcycle instructor (another of my passions) for about 6 years. My wife and I then decided the pull of the north was now too great and we decided to relocate from deepest Essex to Derbyshire. Can you guess where we settled.

I have always had an interest in practical pursuits. Working on cars and motor bikes and particularly woodworking. When we moved, our house had a space that I could convert into a workshop. This was a game changer as now it meant I had my own place to work, it was inside and so it was not weather dependant. If I did not finish in one ses

This was a game changer as now it meant I had my own place to work, it was inside and so it was not weather dependant. If I did not finish in one session I could close the door and start again another day. I started making a variety of things which I gave to friends and family.

I ran out of friends and family to give my gifts to, a few of them suggested I should start selling them. This seemed like a good idea and a great way to fund my hobby. I started with a market stall once a month at the Wirksworth Artisan Market. I did well and people liked my creations. I even had a couple of commissions for items of fur
I ran out of friends and family to give my gifts to, a few of them suggested I should start selling them. This seemed like a good idea and a great way to fund my hobby. I started with a market stall once a month at the Wirksworth Artisan Market. I did well and people liked my creations. I even had a couple of commissions for items of furniture. I have now decided to try my hand at selling on the internet. I will start with chopping boards and pens but will increase my range as I go. Please remember no two items will be the same, and because they are made from wood which is a natural product they may have marks or blemishes.
